Gunnar is a surgeon and an experienced leader in Swedish health care. He received his medical education and PhD at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. He has previously held positions as senior consultant surgeon at the Department of Surgery, Karolinska University Hospital, Head of Surgery at Aleris Sabbatsberg Hospital, CEO at Sollentuna Specialty Care and CEO at Spine Surgery Strängnäs. He has a deep interest and network in education and research. He was formerly chairman of the Minimal Invasive Surgery Association in Sweden and is currently a Board Member of EAES (European Association of Endoscopic Surgery).
